David (Axel) Ericson

David (Axel) Ericson (1869 - 1946) was active/lived in Massachusetts, New York, Minnesota / England, Sweden.  David Ericson is known for Impressionist sea-landscape, genre and portrait painting.

(Axel) David Eriksson   (1869/70 - 1946)

The painter David Eriksson was born in Motala, in Ostergotland, immigrating with his parents to Duluth in 1873.  He left in 1887 to study at the Art Students League in New York, working under the American landscape and portrait painter William Merritt Chase. 

In 1900 he moved to England to study with James McNeill Whistler, afterwards establishing studios in Paris, New York, and Provincetown during the 1920's through the 1940's. 

He returned to Duluth in 1946 where he taught at the Duluth Art Institute.  His paintings are in the collections of the Tweed Museum, Duluth, and the American Swedish Institute, Minneapolis.
